Visiting Bard

Driving Directions

From the East

If you are traveling from east of the Hudson River in New York State, take the Taconic State Parkway to the Red Hook/Pine Plains/Route 199 exit. Drive west on Route 199 (LEFT at end of northbound ramp, or RIGHT at end of southbound ramp). Bear RIGHT at the 199 – 308 fork to stay on Route 199. Travel straight through the village of Red Hook until you come to the Route 199 – Route 9G intersection (third traffic light from Parkway). Turn RIGHT onto Route 9G (NOT Route 9). Drive north 1 mile, turn LEFT at the traffic light, and bear RIGHT toward main campus, onto Annandale Road. Turn LEFT onto Blithewood Road (just past the hexagonal gatehouse), between two small stone walls. Make a LEFT onto Bay Road (look for the Bard Ecology Field Station sign; don’t go into the parking lot before the road). Continue straight down Bay Road (dirt road), through a steel gate, to the bottom of the hill. At the Field Station, please park where other vehicles can pass, go to the side of the building away from the river, walk up the ramp, and ring the doorbell.

From the West

If you are traveling from west of the Hudson River, take the New York State Thruway (I-87) to exit 19 (Kingston), take Route 209 (changes to Route 199 at the Hudson River) over the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge (toll charge) to Route 9G, turn LEFT onto Route 9G, drive north 3.5 miles, turn LEFT at the traffic light, and bear RIGHT toward main campus, onto Annandale Road.

From the North (9G)

Take Route 9G South through Germantown, past Clermont State Historic Site, into Dutchess County, and past Tivoli. You will then pass Kidd Lane on the right. Turn RIGHT on the next public road, Dutchess County Route 103 (Annandale Road). Follow the road around a 90-degree turn to the left, and drive south through campus. You will pass the gym, chapel, and campus center, on your right. Take a RIGHT onto Blithewood Road (just before the hexagonal gatehouse), between two small stone walls. Make a LEFT onto Bay Road (look for the Bard Ecology Field Station sign; don’t go into the parking lot before the road). Continue straight down Bay Road (dirt road), through a steel gate, to the bottom of the hill.
