Research activities at the Field Station contribute to our understanding of the natural environment with a focus on our local areas and regional ecosystems (e.g., freshwater tidal marshes, swamps, streams, and forests). This work is often interdisciplinary in nature and spans a number of scientific disciplines including natural history, ecology, evolution, earth and environmental science, field biology, ornithology, natural resources management, estuarine and wetland ecology, ichthyology, conservation biology, biogeochemistry. Research projects investigate the impacts of human activities on natural processes while addressing environmental problems, ranging from species identification to biodiversity conservation to sustainability.
